History

of The Elm Foundation

The story of The Elm Foundation began in 1985, which was when we launched our charity under the name of North Derbyshire Women’s Aid. Our aim in the mid-eighties was exactly the same as it is today: to provide a range of services and much-needed support to any man, woman or child affected by domestic abuse.

The organisation went on to be known as Derbyshire Domestic Violence and Sexual Abuse Services (DDVSAS) before relaunching as The Elm Foundation in 2018.

The Elm Foundation

The Elm Foundation has been helping people affected by domestic abuse for more than 35 years.

About Us

Our Values

We are affiliated to Women’s Aid Federation England, the national charity working to end domestic abuse against women and children. We are also accredited by Safe Lives, which is a charity that aims to end domestic abuse for good.

Our integrity and values underpin the work we do with people who have experience of domestic abuse. At The Elm Foundation confidentiality is of the utmost importance, and the help and support you’ll receive will come from highly-skilled professionals you can trust. Our support workers are welcoming, they don’t judge, and they work to empower you. They will listen to you and encourage you and equip you with the necessary tools, so that you can make informed choices.

We know that domestic abuse can affect anyone, regardless of gender, ethnicity, age, religion, sexual orientation or disability. We believe in equality and offer support to anyone who needs it.

The centre is a safe space where people can talk freely about their experiences. We can provide secure refuge if needed, and we work to raise awareness about domestic abuse in the wider community.
