Job Title: Accommodation Worker
Responsible to: Accommodation Service Manager
Hours: 35 hours per week
Salary: Grade 8 (£26,903 -£28,913) per annum plus 3% employer pension contribution
This job description may change to reflect changing requirements of the role.
The applicant must hold a valid UK Driving License.
This is an on site position only.
- To assess and support all service users who are/have been residing in The Elm Foundation accommodation (including communal and dispersed).
Service Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
- To provide one to one face to face and telephone support to women, men and young people who are at risk from domestic abuse.
- To provide emotional support, practical support, advice and safety planning.
- To provide advocacy on behalf of clients with external agencies where appropriate.
- To manage crisis situations appropriately.
- Complete refuge referral agency checks/triage refuge referrals to the appropriate refuge- this may be required when we have an influx of refuge referrals or in the case of sickness and/or holiday.
- To support services users in refuge in line with SafeLives Accreditation.
- To manage a case load.
- To provide comprehensive handovers as necessary.
- Complete risk assessments, safety plans and support plans for all clients.
- Work in a multi-agency context to conduct an on-going, in depth need and risk assessment with those in the community using recognised assessment tools consistently across the County. This should include Early Help Assessments in the case of families and or children where one has not yet already been completed.
- To provide support for families and individuals in the community appropriately to the needs of both adults and children following the “team around the family” model.
- To liaise with other agencies as appropriate, attending core group and case conferences as required.
- Implement the Derbyshire referral pathways and systems for risk assessment, safety planning and referral.
- Attend and represent cases referred into MARAC by The Elm Foundation where necessary.
- Support the community team to deliver self-esteem and confidence building programmes out of hours.
- To provide an on call service including emotional and practical support to those residing in TEF accommodation on a rota basis.
- To take out of hour referrals as part of the on call service when required. This includes being on call on weekends and bank holidays on a rota basis.
- To assist in delivery of presentations or workshops about the work of TEF, and to attend meetings, seminars and conferences as requested by the service manager.
- To manage the health and safety standards of each building including daily, monthly and weekly health and safety assessments.
- To refer any difficulties to the Service Manager
Generic Duties and Responsibilities:
- To ensure that all practical, financial and emotional support is provided to service users as defined in the individual support/ safety plan via one to one meetings or group work as appropriate and in accordance with TEF Adult Protection and / or Safeguarding Children policies and procedures.
- To provide appropriate emotional and practical support to service users over the telephone or face to face
- To maintain up to date information and/or changes in practice, housing, welfare issues and legislation that impact on people affected by domestic abuse, undertaking training as necessary.
- To provide assistance in producing statistical and other reports, and to monitor the effectiveness of the service in line with requirements of TEF and funders.
- To evaluate and monitor to measure the effectiveness of service intervention as required.
- To be aware of security issues at the premises and familiarize themselves with procedures such as CCTV monitoring and alarm systems.
- To prepare and participate in supervision, appraisal and development opportunities and other organizational priorities as required.
- To implement decisions agreed in line management supervision and team meetings
- To participate in appropriate training and personal development opportunities.
- To contribute to the training and day to day supervision of volunteers, students and new workers as requested by the service manager.
- To work within the performance management framework for the service to ensure targets and KPIs are achieved to deliver the contract service specification and ensure that the support available is effectively communicated to all service users.
- Remain up to date and compliant with all organisational policies, procedures and professional codes of conduct and uphold standards of best practice including equal opportunities and anti-discriminatory practice.
- To participate in promotional activities for the service, as required, including dissemination of resources and leaflets.
- To liaise with voluntary, statutory agencies, and the local community to raise awareness of domestic abuse issues, available support and offer training and education as appropriate.
- To be part of the wider safeguarding support team within TEF and ensure the safeguarding and data protection guidelines are adhered to in accordance with TEF policies and procedures and Derbyshire County Council.
- Understand the role of all relevant statutory and non-statutory services available to domestic abuse victims.
- To maintain full and accurate case record, monitoring systems and other administrative tasks necessary as required to comply with the job role.
- To work with service users to help them develop their own solutions to their issues.
- To promote service user involvement in the development of service provision and policy.
- To work as part of a team within THE ELM FOUNDATION and to feedback relevant information
- To intervene and manage crisis situations and to deal with issues of conflict resolution as appropriate e.g. conflict between service users, between service users and other agencies and within families (not directly with the perpetrator)
- To liaise with police and other agencies in order to act in response to abusive behaviour or threats from service user’s partners or others who may put at risk the safety and security of the organisation, service users or staff.
- To liaise with, signpost on to or refer to all relevant external agencies both statutory and voluntary as necessary, in order to provide the best possible support for each service user.
- To liaise with other TEF services to ensure that appropriate follow on support is provided to service users, as necessary.
- To carry out service specific risk assessments and maintain health and safety standards for the organisation.
- To ensure that all TEF premises are maintained to a high standard for all service users including the sourcing and replenishing of appropriate resources.
- To ensure that information sharing without consent is carried out in accordance with TEF policies and recorded appropriately.
- To undertake other duties as reasonable requested.

They will also be expected to keep the whereabouts of refuge services confidential.

- This service is run by women for women and is therefore restricted to female applicants under the Equality Act 2010, Schedule 9, and Part 1. Section 7(2) e of the Sex Discrimination Act 1975 apply. The post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act.
