Community Champions

Help to change domestic abuse within your community

Did you know?

Domestic abuse is frighteningly common, 1 in 3 women and 1 in 5 men will experience it in their lifetime.

Most victims are of working age and with 14 billion lost workdays each year because of it; the reality is that your workplace will have staff who are living in an abusive relationship right now.

The insidious nature of domestic abuse means that it affects peoples work and the wider working environment. To successfully tackle domestic abuse, we must see domestic abuse as a workplace issue.

Corporate Domestic Abuse Services

How will being a Champion help our local communities?

Our Together for Change scheme seeks to inspire community members to become Champions who will be able to share what they have learned with friends, family, neighbours and colleagues. They will learn how to respond to and seek expert services for people in their community experiencing domestic abuse

You could benefit from:

  • It will mean that a person affected will be able to get help earlier and therefore, have support sooner.
  • The community will stop asking “why don’t they leave?” and instead ask “why don’t they stop the abuse?”
  • Raise awareness within our local community.
  • Reduce missed opportunities for victims to get help.
  • It will enable businesses and community groups to better support their colleagues and group members.
“The ‘community’ is often the first to know about domestic abuse. But lack of understanding and confidence can make people afraid to bring it up, and unsure of how to respond when someone tells them about it.”
