Show Survivors They’re Not Alone This Christmas

3 min read

🎁 Safe at Christmas 🎁

While many families get together for Christmas, others are rebuilding their lives in refuge accommodation, often with very little, just a few clothes and personal items they grabbed as they left. Until the day when the adults and children who live in refuge can celebrate the holiday in their own homes, show them that you care.

We have talked to women currently living in refuge about Christmas to find out how we can all help them celebrate the season, and beyond, when they move into their own home.

Survivors have shared with us what it means to them…

“We have nobody and people help us, it takes courage to help people in need”

“One day when I’m okay, I’m going to do the same and help others”

“Shows the light, we are not alone, there are people there”

“Helps me take baby steps towards a better future”

“Help from others, helps and motivates us”

“I don’t really think about what I want, it’s about the children”.

Please remember, we support men and women who are on their own too.

We will soon be helping the children write their letters to Santa. Last year the children and young people wrote:

‘My Christmas is different to others’
‘I hope Santa will find us’
‘We will soon have our new home, I am happy though as I no longer live in fear, being with my Mum and Brother is all I need this year’

A voucher may not seem exciting, but one word came up over and over again, ‘choice’. This is something that many domestic abuse victims are denied and for the first time they can make their own decisions, and they know what is best for their children.
