Our Community Care

4 min read

Thanks to the incredible generosity of all the community members at Ikon Church, families from our refuge centres were treated to a truly unforgettable days out at Gulliver’s Kingdom for Halloween 🎃👻and they went along to the Pantomime at Christmas 🎄… oh no you didn’t, oh yes we did!

For many of the children, it was their first time visiting a theme park — and the excitement was clear from the moment we arrived. With refuge staff accompanying the families, the day was filled with laughter, and a much-needed break from the challenges our families have faced. These experiences brought a sense of normality during a difficult time.

You made their wishes come true…

We had a brilliant day. I would not have been able to afford to take my children here.

The day gave us a chance to forget all about the trauma we have been through.”

Wow, we have had the best day ever.”

I have never been to a theme park. Mummy could not afford it. It has been the best day of my life.”

This has literally cheered us up so much, with us only just arriving in refuge, this is what we needed. Thank you so much.”

“All my friends are going to panto, my mum cannot afford it. I feel like my friends now, it was great.

Thanks to Ikon Church, Hasland Community Choir, Chesterfield College these children were able to share in the magic of the seasons and create memories that will last a lifetime. There has been Christmas parties at refuge with Santa visiting, bonfire night activities making chocolate sparklers… and more to come in 2026 with garden renovations improving play spaces for children.
