Together with Health is a one year Standing Together and Home Office funded pilot project aimed at improving the pathways for primary Care patients to access specialist domestic abuse services.
We know that many victims and survivors of domestic abuse will be making visits to their GP and other Primary Care Practitioners while living with abuse. They are often unsure how to disclose this abuse to health professionals. Equally we know that health practitioners do not always feel confident asking about domestic abuse with patients.
Together with Health aims to improve routes to support for victims of domestic abuse who are accessing Primary Care.
The pilot programme
Practices will receive training that will develop their confidence and skills in:
- Recognising the signs and indicators of abuse
- Making safe and targeted enquiries about abuse when appropriate
- Responding to disclosures and referring to specialist Domestic Abuse support.
Pilot outcomes
We are excited to develop stronger links with Primary Care providers across Derbyshire and work with them to create better outcomes and routes of support for victim survivors.
We will be monitoring the progress of this pilot project, reporting back to Standing Together and the Home Office over the course of this one year pilot. We are hopeful that the results will help to increase the referrals to domestic abuse support services from Primary Care and increase the routes to support for victim/survivors. If successful we hope it will enable The Elm Foundation to extend the project to more GP practices across the county.
